22 December 2014
The most sucessful and popular Chinese TV drama “The Legend of Zhen Huan” (甄嬛传) swept the Chinese mainland, Taiwan and some Asian countries including Singapore, Malaysia and North Korea. Two years ago HBO imported this TV series from China, they reportedly plans to cut this 76-episode epic into a 6-episode mini series. According to Cao Ping, the producer of the series, the adapted series will be broadcasted at the end 2014. Legend of Zhen Huan is going to be the first serious instance of a Chinese TV drama broadcasted by a mainstream U.S. TV station.
Sun Li (孙俪), an A-list TV and film star in mainland China, in the titular role, Zhenhuan, who was turned from an innocent and gullible girl (Left) into a sophisticated, stone-hearted and cunning woman through the struggle to fend for herself in the depth of the Qing imperial palace.
In September, in Beijing, Sun Li supplements filming of some scenes in "The Legend Of Zhen Huan" which will be landing in America next year. Netizens posted a recent photo which depicts an aged Zhen Huan. Sun Li adorns a chaplet on her head, wears a gorgeous embroidered gown, and being supported by the arms of some palace folks, strolls leisurely across the river promenade. Sharp-eyed (observant) netizens speculate that these supplementary scenes depict an aged Zhen Huan who has already been promoted to the rank of an Empress. At the same time, Sun Li’s emotions are well-received by netizens and in their collective nostalgia, they express in succession: “Four years have gone by in a flash, but "The Legend Of Zhen Huan" we will never get tired of watching. “Empress, (May) Peace And Fortune Be With You, Anticipating Your (Screen) Return!”
In addition, the US version "The Legend Of Zhen Huan" will be edited by the director Zheng Xiaolong's team and experienced American borned Chinese producer Lin Yibin. But, how to translate the classic dialogue in this series became the most interesting point of the HBO version.
